60 year old, part-time job, working tax credits?

Mr S's uncle has recently found a part-time job after several years on a sickness benefit. It is casual work but he is averaging over 16 hours per week. He was 60 earlier this year. Is there anything he can claim to top up his wages? He owns his home outright, so no rent or mortgage.

As I understand it as a single person he would have to work 30hrs a week at least to claim Working tax credits. He can make a claim for Council tax benefit from his council.

If he has been in receipt of long term Incapacity Benefit he should be able to get Tax Credits with a disability premium for a minimum 16 hour contract

Yes if you are 60+ you only need to work at least 16 hours.

Similarly as someone has already said, he may qualify for the disability element.
