    I wouldn't worry yourself too much about it. ESA replaced Incapacity Benefit, which provided support for the likes of the self emplyed, contractors, etc, i.e, those who don't receive statutory sick pay.

    Providing you have worked and paid your contributions for tax year 2011 - 2012, you should be elligble for income related ESA. (£71.00) per week.
