Joint account for bills etc

Hi,

OH and I have come to the decision to set up a joint bank account for bills etc, so that we can pay half in each and the payments are made by DD or S/O monthly to avoid shuffling money backwards and forwards between us every month to make sure we're square.

We both have HSBC and Natwest accounts. I don't really want to have to try to remember a completely new set of online banking logins, is there some way that either of these banks can somehow create a joint account between our two single ones? We'd both keep the single-named ones without question.

I hope that this makes sense and someone can point us in the right direction. All we really need is somewhere to keep both our contributions, buy food and pay the bills each month, no savings or extras required. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Either bank will be able to set up a joint account alongside your sole account.

Bear in mind that creating a joint account will financially link you, and mean that your credit score will affect his and vice versa. This can be a nightmare to undo, and the whole situation could become even more of a nightmare if you split up.

When I did this, as I managed the finances I did it through my existing banking arrangements rather than his as I preferred the online banking facility!

The Santander 123 account might be a good bet if the amount you'll both be paying in will be £500 or more in total?

Do a calculator first though to make sure your bills will give you enough cashback to justify a £2 monthly fee.

Cheers guys, I have to go into town tomorrow to pay a bill in HSBC so we'll go and have a chat with them, and Natwest is only across the road so we can talk to them too!
