overpayment of housing benefit bill 3 years later

Options
I have just had an invoice from local council for overpayment of housing benefit 3 years later
My partner moved in 3 years ago which i duly told council not claimed housing benefit since and now 3 years later i ve got a bill. How comes its taken so long and do i have to pay it?
Is there a limit of years council has to claim this back?
Any help greatly appreciated

As you were not entitled, didnt you tell them they carried on to pay you?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • No i told them straightaway they didnt pay me anymore but still got this bill

You would probably be better off posting in the benefits forum as people have specific expertise and experience there.

Generally things can normally be reviewed for six or seven years so they won't be statutory barred from trying to get a repayment, so you may have to pay but there are people on benefits forum who work in this area and will be able to advise of current practice.
