Marriott Card 10000 points = Tesco points?

Hi Guys,

I have just received a mail shot advertising Marriott card and a reward of 10000 points on first purchase. Can any one tell me if I convert these to Tesco Clubcard points how much I'll get. Surely it's not £100 worth?

I plan to use it for Marriott stays whilst on business thereby earning 2 points for every £1 spent, again to convert to Tesco Clubcard points. Presumably this would be more lucrative than using a classic tesco credit card (3 points for every £2) if it is 1 for 1 swap?

Could someone please confirm if this is correct before I proceed with the application.

Many thanks.

I think Marriott converts points at the rate of 1 point per $ spent (used to be 1.5).

If you do get 10000 free points (are you sure it isn't 1000) then that does seem like a good deal.

Where did you get the information that you could covert the points into Tesco Clubcard points?

    Show airmiles and tesco at:
    http://marriott.co.uk/Channels/globalSites/rewards/exclusiveBenefits.mi?country=UK&WT_Ref=mi_left

(somewhere else on the marriot site it does say airmiles ended in 2005/2006!!, but looks like tesco is still possible..)

    Did a bit of digging...

Members may not earn both points and miles for the same stay. You may switch from earning miles to points, and vice versa, before a given stay by updating your membership profile or by contacting your local Guest Services office. You will begin earning the new "currency" (points or miles) with your next stay. Previous earnings will not be converted to the new currency. If you wish to "convert" points into miles, redeem your points for a mileage reward.

I'd guess this may apply to tesco, ie the 10k points would not be transferable to 'tesco currency' - others may be interesting in purchasing 2k BA miles with the 10k marriott points). You could sign up for a reward account and see what options are online to manage/switch. Then when you apply provide your memebership number in the application form...

I have in the past converted Marriot Points (earned from stops) they used to be able to convert them at a later date to Tesco even if they started as reward points.

However I can't see this on the choice of things to order anymore.

When it was on I got the following :

    # 1500 TESCO CLUBCARD POINTS
    # (10,000) Total points

But this is all to do with earning Tesco clubcard points for hotel stays (which you can do with or without the credit card):

The OP had three questions can he convert the 1000 points to tesco, whats the exchange rate, and would he get more tesco points by using the marriot card or tesco card when staying at marriot hotels...

I was suggesting creating a rewards account to see what/if you can spend/transfer the points to.

The answer to the last- as i think your pointing out- would be the OP is better off joining their reward program to get 1point per £1 and getting the points(3for£2) by paying on his tesco's clubcard..

But I have not seen any evidence that you can convert Marriott reward points (either earned on the credit card or for hotel stays) into Tesco Clubcard points. All I can see is that you can earn Tesco Clubcard points for hotel stays at the same time as earning Marriott rewards (which you could do with any payment method).

The Marriott reward scheme and Tesco Clubcard points appear to be quite separate.

To me they are not seperate; from your own link-http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/clubcard/partners/?page=marriott -

To me this page is saying to get the tesco points you must enroll in the mariott reward scheme. You can't when checking in show you tesco clubcard.

If on the link you provided you click on the 'more info' it takes you to an application form. At the bottom is 'Marroitt rewards program options, where if you select Miles/Other Program 'Tesco Clubcard' is an option.

Also after you do sign up(as i suggested the OP do to see the options) you can see what you can 'exchange' the points for, as well as change your preference between the different schemes. As jamesh, I(after creating an account-as suggested to the OP-I have no intention of using :) ) can see no way of converting the points to tesco, but you can to the airlines. Hence why in my original reply i said:

Again, I do not know what would happen if you create a rewards account set it to the tesco scheme and then spend on a credit card linked to said account???
  • Has anyone got the transfer from Marriott points to Tesco clubcard points to work? If so, how did you do it?
