JSA in Relation to Redundancy & Notice Payment

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me. I was made redundant in February this year and I decided that I would not claim JSA as I could afford to support myself, and I didn't see the point of claiming JSA for the first 3 months of unemployment, only to have to pay it back anyway if I found a job in those 3 months.

At that time, I went to my local job centre to get advice on this, and I was told that I could do this, or I could put in a claim, which I could still cancel if I decided that I didn't want to go through with it.

I received my redundancy pay and holiday pay that I was entitled to from the Insolvency Service, which all seemed correct. However, I have just received my payment in lieu of notice from the Insolvency Service, and there is a section titled "Minus benefits you may have been entitled to but
did not claim" and they have deducted money for JSA that I could have claimed.

Needless to say, I'm really annoyed about this having thought that I was doing a decent thing in the first place by not claiming JSA. Does anybody know if there is anything I can do about this ? at no point has anybody advised me that not claiming JSA would go against me for claiming my payment in lieu, and I basically feel that I have been robbed.

Thanks
Lee.

similar thing happened to my Mrs was in a job for over 16 yrs when made redundant and didn't wanna go back to work - so technically wasn't job seeking when her redundancy came through exactly the same thing with her PILON- saying she should have minimized her risk BY claiming - so lost out by 12 x 67.50 = £810 , didnt seen right to us either , she worked since she was 17 never claimed any type of benefit and didnt wanna start yet lost out by over 800 quid cos she didnt -
