A neighbour mentioned that his Internet connection drops when the home phone rings and he answers it.
Any thoughts on what could cause it? His home phone is a Dect one. Would changing the channel on the router be an idea?

Microfilters or physical set up.He needs to have a filter connected to ANY phone socket that is in use & the filter needs to be connected to the phone socket BEFORE any splitter/extansion plugs.HOWEVER,in some cases where the is a extension connected into the microfilter &,say, runs to the bedroom, you do not need a filter on the bedroom end.(for multiroom for example)
If the is an plug in extension splitter running from the main phone point (NTE5 Master Socket) to the living room for the Sky & Phone, then another running to the bedroom for the broadband, then you don't need a filter fitted to the main phone point as long as the are filters fitted to the extensions in the living room & bedroom.
Like so;0 -
Unless you have the original BT OpenReach install of ADSL (where an engineer came out) or BT Infinity where in both cases they changed your master socket, you need a filter on every telephone socket that has a phone plugged in otherwise it causes exactly what you describe.0

Thanks all for help so far.
I will try and get in and take a look at the filters.0 -
This happened a while back with us.
Turned out an engineer had been working in a cabinet in the street nearby and a wire had come slightly loose. Once fixed, our problem went.
Worth asking BT if they had an engineer out in your area should changing the filters etc not help.Herman - MP for all!0 -
It could be filters but it may be something more I have had this issue each time of switching briadband providers since living here (twice in 15 years)
On both occasions I had to request an engineer. The last time we had it an engineer came and was so disinterested in solving the issue I wrote to Ben Verwaayen who was CEO of BT at the time. He sent a dedicated engineer out who was more clued up and he fixed the problem by rerouting my wire on the pole to a different connection.
I think it is a high resistance issue with my line and it makes me wary of changing BB providers again. Since it has been fixed, I have had no issues whatsoever.
Do the quiet line test and ring 17070 option 2 - you should hear nothing, no hisses, no crackles etc
If you do hear crackling and noise then this could be the cause and it could be a line issue.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
had the exact same issue with a client a couple of weeks ago. Had put a phone splitter into the wall socket to which they had attached a phone without a filter. They then plugged the filter into the other splitter socket. Every time the phone rang they lost their internet connection!!!!!!!!!! Could be as simple as that.0

We had a microfilter, but of course when it went faulty we got the same problem. A new one solved the issue.0

If losing internet connection TOTALLY - microfilter.
If only losing wireless connectivity to the router - DECT phoneHow do I add a signature?0
