Whats the best of the worse?

I've been refused three current accounts and its starting to P me off. I want to take advantage of the deals that are on offer.

Done all the credit sites, got my credit reports etc nothing looks bad, apart from the searches reported from me trying to get a decent bank account.

I consider myself very good with money - never any debt etc. Reading about how the rediculous world of credit works I think this is half my problem.

I've been looking at the Capital One Classic card and although it has an abysmal rate, with a bit of use over a year or so I think it should enable me to pick up some credit score. I've also found that the Vanquis Abacus and Aqua cards might be options to look at.

I basicly don't want credit, I don't want a loan and I don't want debt (with the exception of a mortgage). I just want to eventually be able to take advantage of the good deals on offer.

Does anyone else have any experience with trying to get of the first rung of the credit ladder? Have any better / preferred options out of the three cards I've already found? Should I be considering storecards?

Thanks :)

Go for one of the credit builder cards you mentioned, spend a little each month and have a direct debit to pay it off in full every month

Doesnt really matter what you choose out of the above as long as you pay them all off in full each month, without fail.

This will help improve your credit history, as would getting a contract mobile if you dont have one already. Are you also registered on electoral roll?
  • Thanks for the tips. Was what I thought, they are pretty much as bad as each other :)

Paying them off in full is not problem, nor is going over the limit.

Would you have an idea as to how long it may take to build up some credit history by using the card - 6 months, 1 year?

As for the electoral roll, I phoned the council yesterday and yes I am registered. This is something I need to dispute with the credit reference agencies as aparently they say I'm not.

I want to use equifax's free 30 day trial, but hey! you need a blinkin visa/mastercard to register!! One of those prepay visa cards might be an option.

    Cheers
