Hi guys,
i hope you can help. Basically was in the process of reclaiming ppi from welcome finance after they wrote to me. Something to do with the FSCS. So back in January i decided after speaking to someone from their customer helpline that it would be worth a go. To try and cut a long story short i was told that even though i had been on a Debt relief order it was still worth me claiming as i would probably be entitled to compensation as well. I asked them if any money that i had owed to them under the DRO would be included and they advised no otherwise i wouldn't have bothered claiming. My DRO had been discharged about 6 months prior to this. Anyway i have today received a decision letter saying i am indeed entitled to compensation of £1133 but i won't get any of it because they have taken it off the amount i owed them 6 months prior. If they had told me this back in JANUARY when i called them then i wouldn't have bothered with all this hassle and trust me it has been 4 months of nothing but incompetence from their side. I am thinking of writing a complaint but wanted to know if anyone else had been in a similar situation. thanks in advance:)

What are you going to complain about? You owe them money and thought they would be paying you? Why would you think you were entitled to anything in the first place?
I suppose you can complain about the wrong information you were given at the outset of your "claim", but I doubt you'll get any satisfaction from that.0 -

Who told you that? It isnt how the system works.Anyway i have today received a decision letter saying i am indeed entitled to compensation of £1133 but i won't get any of it because they have taken it off the amount i owed them 6 months prior.
The use of redress against arrears, defaults and amounts written off before it gets paid to you (in the pecking order) is quite normal.
The issue here is what you were told. Not the outcome. I do have to say that I am pleased with that outcome. Nothing against you but I have to pay towards the FSCS each year. It would be morally wrong for you to get the money when other creditors (of which effectively is me and others like me) lost out.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
