Can Credit Card Co use mortgage account to collect debt?

Hi, I just wanted to ask for your thoughts/help please.
I am in quite serious debt due to ill health and unfortunate circumstances. I did have the foresight in my more financially healthy years to make extra payments on my Mortgage, which is a big help at the moment and will keep me going for a while, keeping my home.

I have a credit card with the same Co which has now been forwarded to an external collection agency, can they access the 'in credit' funds to pay towards the credit card debt?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Unless you have an offset mortgage, where your overpayments are acting to reduce the interest accruing, I doubt they'll take the money from the mortgage account. After all, that's just robbing peter to pay paul...but if they did your interest rate would no doubt fall!

If you read your T&Cs you'll probably find the right to 'set off' only relates to other 'in credit' accounts you hold, ie current and savings accounts.

Thanks for your reply, it has reassured me a little. I am just wondering whether to move the money to a different account that I hold which is not related to anything and set up a direct debit - just to be on the safe side.
