What is a snap-in and how to fix it

Options
There is something wrong with my lap top although I can still use it.
I have lost the date and also the Start circle.

"MMC has detected an error in a snap in and will unload it"

"Report this error to MSE and then shut down MMC

0R
"Unload the snap-in and continue running."

I was told how to get Start working for which I am grateful but haven't
sorting anything since then

Can anyone help?

    Hi Jake'sGran

    MMC is the Microsoft Management Console and a Snap-in is a generic name for one of the many configuration tools that can be accessed via the MMC.

    Ideally you need to know exactly which Snap-in is causing the problem before any useful advice can be provided. If you can get into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs and look for any errors related to the MMC and/or mention of a Snap-in problem it should be provide you with a little more in-depth information as well as an Error ID (which isn't always as useful as you'd imagine) as a starting point.

    MMC = Microsoft Management Console

    Microsoft Management Console enables system administrators to create special tools to delegate specific administrative tasks to users or groups. Microsoft provides standard tools with the operating system that perform everyday administrative tasks that users need to accomplish. These tools, consisting of one or more applications, are built with modules called snap-ins.

    If the error report gives the name of the affected snap in, post the full error message.
    How do I add a signature?
