Regarding bread?!
DH thinks (is he right) that if a loaf is reduced to 1/2 price with date ending say today then if we freeze it today and defrost next week we have to eat it within 24 hours?
Is this right? How long will it last once frozen on it's 'whoops' date and defrosted a week later??
Any help will be appreciated as this could potentially save us a great deal of money

In all honesty I ignore the dates on bread because its pretty obvious as to whether its worth eating. I find my yellow sticker bread last a good few days after the date shown. Even bread that is past its best can be toasted or grated down for breadcrumbs for a dish.
If your OH is worried you could individually freeze a days portion of bread so you defrost just what you need.
Edit: just checked and we are on day 3 of our fresh bloomer being out of date and its still soft and lovely.0 -
I think you're fine to eat it as you normally would once defrosted.
We always buy whoops! bread and have never had a problem using it 2-3 days after defrosting.0 -
I always buy bread with that days date and it's normally good for 3/4 days afterwards as long as resealed tightly. I find occasionally if I freeze bread when I defrost it that its a bit dry by the following day but perfectly edible.0

I'm another one that has got into the habit of freezing whoopsied bread - once defrosted a loaf can last me for over a week, it gets whizzed into breadcrumbs at the first sign of going stale. There's no rule to say it must be defrosted within a week, although admittedly it does taste fresher if defrosted sooner rather than later.

SO true :rotfl:
Does he need to know? once you get a funny feeling (as he does in this instance) it is hard to ignore and eat as normal - since he will be checking every bite to be stale / off.
You will know when its not suitable - the texture, taste, the appearance and for those with sensative noses the smell will change.0 -
Mr KB spotted some RTC loaves the other day and wanted to get a couple extra to go in the freezer
You'll be fine eating it as you normally do. If all else fails, when it goes into the freezer take off the yellow sticker and he'll never know

I freeze on the day then just take out the slices we will use then.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0

I Ignore all best before's also. I usually use up frozen bread within a month of freezing, as it takes a lot of freezer room. If it is a uncut loaf, a quick run under the tap and 5 mins in a hot over will get it as good as new!
Eat it until it is either mouldy or stale. Stale YS bread makes great breadcrumbs, egg fried bread, or bread and butter pudding.0 -
I buy whoopsied sticker bread and so far, so good. I divide it up into 4/6 slices and place in freezer bags that way im only taking out/using what I need.Your fooling no one bar yourself.0
