Right level of available credit?

Options
Hello,
what do people generally deem to be the 'ideal' level of available credit before asking some of it to be cut? Or, another way, what is the ideal salary:credit ratio?

I have 3x CC's with moderate limits, and a large limit on a catalogue account.

My used % is around 17% - but going down by a fair bit each month (though credit report says 5% oddly!), and my available credit:salary ratio is around 35% of my basic salary - would this be deemed too high to, say, a mortgage lender? (No mortgage at the moment, but planning for one in the near future)

thanks for your thoughts!

Always good to pay down balances and clear them every month if you can. Overall looks OK, some thought that catalogue accounts may not be looked on favourably so potentially look at closing that if you can before the. Mortgage application is mAde.
