Carphone Warehouse Phone Insurance Scam

Just a warning I got a new phone in may and let sign me for the free phone insurance.

I forgot to cancel the policy and the payment left on the 1st so I canceled then and took the payment on the chin. Canceled the direct debit as well as the policy.

To my horror they have taken another payment today¬! When I had canceled the direct debit. It turns out the have put in another claim upon seeing that I canceled my last one using the same policy number but changing the end digit from a 1 to a 2!

They of course claim this is a bank error but lloyds claim they have set up a new instruction. Llloyds have recalled it and barred cpw from direct debits with me in the future.

You have been warned

It would be best to advise them you want to cancel as stopping your direct debit will not cancel it

    It makes little difference.

Unfortunately companies that deal with telephones and broadband have a habit of doing this even if you send them a recorded delivery letter telling them you are cancelling the contract in good time.

This is because they don't employ enough staff so don't bother looking at the letters until 2-3 months after they receive them. (That's if they admit to receiving your letter.)

All you can do is hope you are with a bank who doesn't try and tell you that you must try to reclaim the money of the retailer first.

I've had to threaten such companies with court action before they stopped resetting up direct debits that I've cancelled.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
