These dates clash. You can't have a mucky decorator and new furniture in the same space.... it only works on paper.

    Thanks.
I disagree on the decorator though, id rather everything be in on the morning of the monday and then the decorator can be filling and touching up any blemishes from sofa/ beds going up stairs etc. Everything will be left in packaging in the middle of each room until he has finished in that room

There is tons to do I'm afraid, i haven't got the link but if you go on Direct Gov they have a great page that lists everyone you need to contact - mega helpful!

Don't know what your situation is, but I'd be wary of comparing gas/electric straight away unless where you live now is very similar to the new property as otherwise your usage will have to be predicted and might not get you the best deal. My mum has always told me to go with the current supplier for just like 3 months to see what usage actually is before looking to compare.

    Good luck!

Remember it is usual to ring gas and electricity suppliers on the day that you complete on the purchase to confirm what you entry meter readings are. When the bills come in, make sure the initial readings tally with those.
If the property has a water meter, do the same with that.

Council tax you can inform beforehand, you just let them know the date you will be moving in and liable for CT.

I've got an idea there is a good way/bad way to get the tv licence and sure someone else maybe able to advise. I think it's to do with which part of the month you buy it, buying at the wrong time means you lose out by a couple of weeks, so check out what is a favourable date to buy one.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Congratulations - on your new home.

Sorry to hijack but after going through the house purchase from hell (we made the offer at the end of Feb and then the vendors started mucking us about) we have finally exchanged contracts and will complete on 25th June which is rather fortuitous as I move out of my rented flat on 30 June:D

This little house will be my forever home - bought for me by my parents who don't like me wasting money on rent and are trying to give me a leg up after years of being on the back foot (courtesy of now ex husband). I cannot wait to move in but now I have so many folks to contact - I have booked the removal men already though.

Has anyone tried this iammoving site? directgov recommends it and could save time if it's as simple and free as it seems
