Non refundable holiday havoc!

We booked a flight and holiday earlier in the year via Holidaygenie, a few months ago my wife found out she was pregnant and as are new baby will be only four weeks at the time of our planned trip (Dubai for New Years Eve!) we tried to cancel. Both the Hylton and Air France would not deal with our request as we had boked through a third party, and Holidaygenie have stated that all bookings are non refundable and non transferable (we thought that we might be able to pass the holiday on to some friends who were keen).
We have enquired to holidaygenie to see if we could postpone the holiday for six months or so, but as of yet have had no reply.
Does anyone know if we have any come-back? Or have we just waved goodbye to a couple of grand?

Just go?? No reason not to take your baby as far as I can see. My son wasn't much older when we flew to the UAE. It wasn't a big deal.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

Ah there is nothing as nice as a four week old baby near you on a plane for several hours, except perhaps twins.0

Mine pretty much slept the whole 8 hours. I breastfed him
for takeoff and landing and a couple of times in between. It was a day flight and didn't disrupt anyone.
OP - only 5% of babies arrive on their due date. Yours could be early - mine was 2 weeks late. So you might have an older/younger baby to be thinking about.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

I love having babies near me on the plane, they are a cute distraction and take up far less room than the fat old man that always finds his way next to me ... and thinks he can use my shoulder as a head rest! :eek:0

I would take the baby. Only problem is, if he/she was 2 weeks late, would you get a passport in time? My friend just had a baby and the appointment to register the birth was about two days away from the legal limit of 42 days, and I assume you cannot even apply for the passport without the birth cert? Did you use the fast track service?I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.0 -

Passport form was already completed, with baby's name blank. Baby was 2 weeks late and registered at 3 days old - birth cert issued immediately. Photos taken with baby lying on floor on cream coloured blanket and printed at local branch of Jessops. Photo and form signed by a close friend and everything to Post Office by the time baby was 6 days old. Used check and send service. Baby's passport received 2 weeks later, still a couple of weeks before we flew.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.

my youngest went away with me when she was 3 months...she was best behaved on the plane. slept the whole jouney and woke up on landing:o
i dont think a baby that age spoils a holiday as they arent crawling so you can put them in a pram or on a blanket in shade etc and they are quite happy.

MSE forum members must have the best behaved babies in the world,
shame about all the others.
I have a very soft spot for children on flights,
