Not received cash back from Asda self service.

Hi I hope someone can help me
Yesterday I went into Asda to purchase a plant for £2.I used the self service checkout and asked for £50 cash back so I could go get my Dads Fathers day gift but it said my card had been declined.I tried a couple more times but asked for smaller amounts of cash back but it still kept declining it.So i just paid the £2 for the plant and did;nt get any cash back and that went through OK.After, I checked my bank balance on my phone to see what was happening and the original £52 had been taken from my account even though it said it was declined.I went straight back in the shop and they basically said there was nothing they could do and to see my bank.So I went straight up to Natwest and explained what had happened, they said the £52 should go back in by the morning but if not there wasn;t much they could do as the self service checkout didn't give me a receipt saying my card was declined????So its pretty much my word that I didn't get the cash back.
The money still hasn't gone back into my account. What should I do now?
Thanks

The money more than likely has not gone from your account but is reserved and not available to you until the reservation drops off. Highly unlikely that you can see the actual cleared purchase, just that your available balance is less. Often takes 3-7 working days for it to credit back.0

Natwest internet banking will show a pre authorisation as a transaction, which is what I suspect has happened with the OP. This transaction will eventually drop off and the funds will re appear once the pre authorisation drops off though this may take a few days0

Do Asda have security cameras on their self service?
Asked for cash back in a co-op a few months back but didn't get it off the cashier (blonde moment I think!!). Had driven home before I realised. But went back and they were able to check security cameras.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -
Keep your receipt for the £2, and if they bill you £52, present it.0

Thanks for your answers everyone.
I went back into the bank and they phoned the authorisation center who said the transaction had been authorised so there must have been some fault with the self service checkout when it told me it was declined. So I went back to Asda and asked to speak to the manager who took my card details and said he would phone the people who deal with it and then phone me back which he did within half an hour and its all sorted.:jThe only downside is the money won't be in my account 'til Wednesday at the latest. But he said he had sent a fax through to someone to try and speed it up so fingers crossed.
I'm a bit peeved that it happened in the first place and left me skint but at least Asda have been quick to sort it out.0 -

Sorry to !!!! on your bonfire but Asda haven't sorted anything.
Once the £52 isn't claimed the pre-authorisation will drop off, anything up to 7 days.
If the retailer contacts the bank directly then it can be removed within 24 hours. The fact that you say it may take up to Wednesday tells me that they have fobbed you off and you are being taken for a mug.0 -

No I wasn't fobbed off he said it would take a couple of days but wasn't sure how the weekend would affect it as some places don't class them as working days so he said give it until the end of Tuesday and go in Wednesday morning if nothing had happened. He faxed them to speed it up which must have worked as this morning the transaction had dropped off my account but the money didn't go back in 'til a few hour later.Which I really wasn't expecting so soon but am definitely happy about!:jI was quite surprised how helpful the manager was actually I didn't expect them to be so efficient. He kept me updated with phone calls with what was happening .which was good.So problem sorted.0 -

It turns out that he hadn't fobbed you off so well done to the Manager. But, if it had taken until Wednesday as you believed may have been the case, then it is exactly what he would have done.
Fixed this for customers a number of times myself - it shouldn't take anymore than 24 hours.0
