When to book Transatlantic Flight?

Last year I booked a flight departing in February 2012 to Miami from Heathrow and it cost £420 rtn (direct). I booked it 6 months in advance and price was still the same in January a month before I departed.
This year I want to do the same thing but the same flight cost £590 rtn. Does anyone know the reason and is it likely to change ?

I think the Airport Passenger Tax went up in April, not sure how much but could that account for some of the difference? Fuel costs etc all make a difference. I know when we booked Gatwick to Orlando last year it was £480 and this year it is has shot up to £630!Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!!:eek:0

Because transatlantic flights have gone up in price, it may change, it may go up, then again it may go down0

I agree the increase in APD, the EU Emission scheme and the consolidation of flights between the airlines have all contributed to the increase.
I have noticed that regional departures have not been affected by such a big rise, so will avoid London airport and save the travel costs to London.0 -
Should be sales after the summer, if your nerves can stand it i'd hang on to Christmas sale,
Indirect a option? that could work out slightly cheaper. also keep an eye on Fly/Drive prices we booked just after Easter BA flights from Gatwick to MCO (we actually need a car) but the fights worked out at £390PP if you don't need a car just add the cheapest and don't pick it up at the airport.
Driving? flying into Tampa an option it's an easier airport and an easy drive to Miami
have a great trip0
