Level term insurance and decreasing term insurance

Hi,
Can somebody explain to me why it is not a good idea to put a level term insurance in a trust if it is to serve as mortgage protection?
I wanted to have just one insurance to give protection to my mortgage and a little more in it for my children in case something happened to me. I wanted to put it in a trust but read somewhere it is not advisable. Just wondered why?
