Food Prices on Virgin Trains

Hello

I have not been on Virgin Trains before and I was wondering how much the food is on board? I will already have enough to carry and dont want to have to carry a bag of food to last the day from 6am-9pm.

Thanks :)

Take money then, as often the card machine isn't working!

(You can get a sandwich and a hot drink for £3.95)

Expensive but the last time I was on a virgin train it was a buffet car - something British Rail scrapped in the 80's so it was actually a really cool treat.

Stunning train it was too - really smooth, ultra modern, quite comfy compared to the thin sponged seats on normal trains etc. In general it was expensive but impressive. I certainly enjoyed the trip and have to hand it to Mr Branson, he's done rather well. The train was packed with passengers too - no shortage of business there.

Expensive and selection not always up to much IME.

They don't take cards at all now in the onboard shops - you can buy a voucher at the station by card though...

Can't you pick something up prior to boarding the train home? Then you'd be carrying something for a short while rather than from 6am. I like picking up a sanie, drink and a cake or bag of crips of mark and Spencers simply food, far cheaper than paying train prices.

Do this, preferably at a shop outside the station where it'll be cheaper. :)

Yes they do. It's just a bit hit-and-miss because not all the shops have them.

How big a bag of food do you think you would need ?
Eat a bowl of porridge before setting off and take some sandwiches for the tea.
Plan on a meal upon arrival.

Get yourself a free 'Bite card' and then you get, I think, 20% off food at mainline stations.
