Hi i need some images/graphics for my website but not sure where to get them from?

I was going to use google images but was told that your not allowed to just take images off there as they have copyright issues etc

So where can i get images from that are safe and ok to use?

Thanks

sxc.hu - royalty free no cost stock image library.

istockphoto.com and sutterstock.com images are always top notch but they are quite expensive.

    Go to http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/

Scroll to the bottom, to the bit about creative commons and tick the relevant boxes.

Search for what you are after from the remaining results and as long as you credit the person you get the image from with a link back to their flickr page then you are free to use the images.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone

Many of these images are just photo's though and i needed more "graphic" type images instead of pictures of people

For example i need an image for a "delivery man" but dont want a picture of a guy holding a box, i want an image/graphic instead.

Google images has loads of these but the sites suggested above just have pictures/photographs

Any idea's where i should go for such graphics etc?

    Thanks

You'll probably have to pay for something like that.

Some rather cunning photographers leave images out on google carefully search word loaded, then they track down use and sue for enormous amounts of damages and generally win.
Copyright Images are flagrancy damages applicable, that is where a punitive amount can be claimed to punish the thief for copyright theft as opposed to actual damages.

If you search Google for "Royalty free graphics" you should find a multitude.

Royalty free just means there are no ongoing costs, i.e. you only pay a one-off fee rather than on a per use basis.

    You still have to pay

Googling Royalty free wont help if the image is stolen, to be sure you need to make sure you have a copy of an actual licence that gives permission to use that image for that purpose and for what period of time.
One rather cunning bloke claims to make £450,000 a year by loading google with his stock images people then nick and use, he tracks them down and sues hard and fast.
What he does is despicable but he claims to have increased his earning 10 fold from shooting stock to leaving it out for people to steal.
only the person who creates the copyright can grant you permission to use it.
