Is a bluetooth keyboard secure?

I remember years ago people banging on about wireless keyboards and that your neighbour could pick up what you were typing etc. Anyway fast forward a few years if you use a bluetooth keyboard with an ipad is it secure, is there anything you should do to make it secure? I didn't know if it was the same principle as years ago? Thanks

It is possible, but painful (BlueTooth is encrypted) and as BlueTooth has such a short range they would have to be hanging suspiciously around you with their software.

Ok, thanks. I'll only be using it at home anyway. I just wasn't sure as my sister said when you have your phone on bluetooth anyone can pick your stuff up?

No. You have to connect and the encryption is with keys shared between those devices. You can get programs that sniff the data but it is so negligable it isn't worth worrying about.

really i have picked bluetooth up at over a kilometer away, in ideal conditions tho.
bluetooth is actually a really bad protocol security wise. however there are very few tools under around 10 grand that can be used. that being said bluetooth hacking is extreamly rare as its a location reestricted attack most hackers just stick to the net
