Provisional to full insurance & fronting

Hoping for some advice on a couple of queries I have :o

OH and I have a shared car. I use it mostly as he does not need it for work (work is a short walk away).
We have moved to a rural area and I will be spending a lot of time going back to visit parents and my eldest child who didn't want to leave. OH will need a car when I am gone so we are buying a little Fiesta from a friend and OH will insure it in his name.

Here's the problem though....my 17 yr old daughter will be joining us in a couple of months and will go to college here. She is taking lessons at the moment and we thought it would be beneficial if we insured her on the Fiesta so we could supervise her and give extra hours practice.
What happens if she passes her test really quickly though - will the insurer up the cost as she would then be a higher risk as a newly passed driver? Should I look for an insurer who is cheap for young drivers and hope they aren't too expensive while she is a provisional? Or stretch it out so she passes her test in a years time then we just get a new policy?! :rotfl:

Also worried about fronting. OH does not need to use the car for work so daughter could be the one mostly driving it. But that would depend on when she passes her test. And when OH is home and I am away he would have priority over the car in order to get out and about. Would it be classed as fronting?
Any ideas on how to proceed?

As soon as she passes her test the cost will go through the roof, my daughters (3-4 years ago now) went from £650 to £1200 when she passed.Insurance company's are not soft when it comes to fronting and it's sometimes just as cheap to put the new driver down as the main driver if she will be using the car more.

    Thank you John.
We looked at quotes and it was £860 while on provisional and then £1500 when a newly passed driver. The only problem is the quotes for before and after passing a test were not from the same company.
I guess I need to phone up and ask what it might jump to should she pass her test within the year of the initial policy.
We don't want to intentionally front but surely we would be doing it if we put the daughter as the main driver when she hasn't even passed her test. Although she is keen she may not pass her test for years, if ever so therefore OH would be the main driver.

Before choosing a company, ask them if they will cover your daughter after she has passed (many won't continue to cover learners after they pass, meaning an expensive policy cancellation and loss of the NCD for the part year).

Sheilas Wheels will. That is who my 17 yo daughter is with. When she passed her test they only asked for a further £81 to cover the 3 months up to renewal which was a pleasant surprise.

Note: Insurance is in her name on her car, her Mum & I are named drivers.

You can only tell the truth. OH is main driver when you buy the policy. When you ring to tell them the additional driver has passed her test, you should tell them she will now be the main driver. They may not agree to cover you for that though.
