Could the meter be faulty?

    I said in the original post that the meter readings were accurate.

    Its not simple to do tests as we now live hundreds of miles from the empty house.

    Apologies. Missed that.
    Difficult if you're so far away. Does anybody nearer have access to it? Might be worth asking your supplier which tariff would suit you best as the property is currently empty. One without a standing charge would probably be better and you could shut the boiler down completely now we're not expecting a freeze - for a few months at least!
