Yep, you have it!

All victims see is the fact they are getting a lovely car for a fraction of the price and they congratulate themselves about being clever by only paying a few thousand in deposit before the sale, rather than the whole lot.

To me this is an obvious scam, but from reading some pages about it on google it does seem that many people do still fall for it.
