It might be a case of the UCAS form etc just being a 'formality', if perhaps you've done an access course through a college that's linked to a certain uni, but as far as I'm aware you still have to fill one in and send it off.
You could go to uni this Sept/Oct if you were willing to go through UCAS extra, but obviously your choice of course may be more limited than someone who's applied in the 'normal' way.
Thanks Gingernutmeg :T ... maybe I read that wrong, what's UCAS extra?
I think you're right about mature students still having to go through UCAS. I think I'm too late to apply for the 2007 entry now though. I think I've got to wait until 2008, which may be best as I'd have time to gain a lot more experience and some qualifications to help my application.

Do you have all the qualifications you need apart from the maths, e.g. A-levels/GNVQs etc? If so I think you should just get a level 2 Adult Numeracy Certificate.
If you don't have level 3 qualifications (A-level or equivalent) then I think the Access is a good idea. If you have level 3 qualifications but they are in the wrong subjects then you might be able to do a foundation year.0 -

I don't really have anything at Level 3 that will count (just a music related course) ... the Access course is looking like the best route at the moment I think. Either that or some distance learning courses.

You can do mentoring to 11 to 16 year olds and get paid £40 a day, well you can in London not sure about anywhere else. I think it is aimed at those considering teaching but just Google Student Associates Scheme and read about it it might be for anyone thinking of working with youngsters.0

Thanks pbradley:T I'll take a look at that. Have you done it yourself? Or know someone who has done it?

No I have never been a mentor, my sister looked into it but she is thinking of teaching because she has a young family and thought it would fit in while they were of school age.0

I don't know much about it but UCAS extra is a fairly new scheme introduced to bridge the gap between standard applications and Clearing. I *think* it's aimed maybe at late applicants, or those who've declined all of their offers, or want to do a different course than that which they originally applied for, or those who just generally want to avoid the scramble at Clearing!0 -

Oh that sounds like something I should look into. Thanks for that Ginger... I'll check it out :T
