I've looked around and it seems Aviva are in the minority on this. Others I've looked at only mention cars.

I did note that esure say :- Cover is limited to third party only and only applies as long as the car is not owned by you or your partner or hired or leased to you or your partner under a hire purchase or leasing agreement or hired or rented to you or your partner under a car hire or rental agreement.

I would be surprised if rental companies would be happy renting a car or van to someone driving their vehicle with only third party cover anyway.

Mine states car and there is no definition of car in the policy docs so must assume a car means car & not vehicle !
Mr Molerat may also drive with the owners permission a motor car that is not owned by or registered to, or hired, rented or leased to, them, their business partner or their employer, or is being kept or used in connection with their or their employer's business.
But I can drive Mrs Ms car on my insurance which seems unusual. No wonder people get confused.

I've been driving 3 years and 21yrs old. I recently purchased car insurance fully comp, as previously I could only afford 3rd party. I have 1 years no claims (was a named driver first 2 years)

I heard a while ago that fully comp covers the driver, not just the vehicle, so am I covered to drive certain other vehicles?

I'm just wondering because I need a van, and wondering whether or not I should hire a van for a week or purchase 1 weeks short term insurance to drive a family members van. BUT if I'm fully comp does that mean I'm insured to drive this van anyway? Or is it only certain vehicles? Or is it only certain journeys? Or am I totally incorrect?

What does your insurance policy say about driving other vehicles?

If you hire a van, then typically the hire company will provide insurance for you whilst driving their vehicle.

If you drive a friend's van, perhaps they could add you as a named driver to their insurance?
