Has anyone used Windows XP Remote Assistance ??
I tried to use this earlier to connect to someone's computer to help them.
But when I tried to connect, I got following error message that it was unable to resolve the DNS.
'A Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the DNS name of the remote computer could not be resolved'
Any ideas what the problem is & how to get it working ??

In the windows firewall setting on your pc, go to exceptions, look for a tick box next to 'remote' which will be ticked. Untick this then OK.
This is the basic thing to try so see if that works.0 -
If you cannot connect via Windows remote assistance try the rather good and free for non commercial users Teamviewer software, this will usually work even if a firewall is present.
Install the full version on your PC and ask your client to install the same or the quicksupport version.
Once they have the prog running ask them for the ID and password that will be displayed, enter them on your PC and you can take control of their PC as if you were in front of it.

+1 for Teamviewer. Easy to set up and easy to use.0

Or logmein https://www.logmein.com, again completely free with the benefit being you dont need to install anything major on the pc you wish to connect to. The free version also allows you to connect to around 6 pcs which remain in your account so you could add 6 of your friends.family then whenever they have an issue you could log onto anyof them.0

Do these pieces of software allow connections from different versions of Windows?0
