I don't know if this helps but we've just had a quote to fit the following:

(our kitchen is 5m x2.5 approx)

    2 corner units
    1 fitted dishwasher
    1 sink
    1 winerack
    2 400mm drawers
    1 600mm drawers
2 larder units (600mm) with one pull out rack
    Horizontal unit over the fridge
    1 microwave unit
    4 wall units (400mm)
    Sink
    Plinths, cornice etc

    Price also includes:
Re routing gas supply under the floor
Re routing the plumbing to outside to clear walls of pipes
3 double sockets under countertop height for appliances

It was just over £1300, but we're not in London.

We've still got to arrange tiling and floor fitting and we had the ceiling plastered recently (£100). Also are paying £550 to another electrician to sort out the main bits of electric to bring it up to date (new consumer unit, sockets, lights etc).

Oh and kitchen is flatpack (ikea).
  • Thanks osian, yes that is helpful. We're not in London but in the South West. Your quotes seem good value I think? Hope it all turns out lovely, it can be a bit stressful. :)

it never fails to amaze me that people only get one quote then ask if this is fair, no one on here can tell you if this is fair or not, every company has different overheads & costs & will price a job differently, no two jobs are the same there are always different things to take into account & without viewing the work involved no one here will know the real work involved. most people get three quotes then go for the middle one.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

It never fails to not surprise me that some people only post to have a dig!

If you read thru the posts you'll see I am getting more quotes but I wanted to see what people thought of this quote - I can see what you think, not very helpful thank you.

i am not having a dig i am trying to point out that without viewing the work involved no one can tell you if this is fair, how much work is involved in the electrics, how much work is involved in replacing the ceiling, how straight are the walls, is the fitter just one guy or a larger company, just look at any thread on here & everyone could give you a different view & price it doesn't mean that one is right or wrong, you could get 10 quotes & they would all be different & some by quite alot, why ? if they are all doing the same work, because everyone will have different costs & want to earn more or less money, some people will do the work to a very high standard & some will just have a "that will do" attitude, you don't always get what you pay for just because one company gives a high quote doesn't mean you are going to get a better job than the cheaper guy, but like i said you can't give a quote over the phone or over the internet you need to see the job, discuss it with the customer & see the work involved, people employ a company to do work because they are not capible of doing the work themselves, there will be lots of things involved in any work but you can't list everything that is involved, as the customer you don't need to know how many screws or nails are being used & if you ask what the contractor is doing every 5 mins they will soon get fed up, as long as the job is professionally done & done how you want it they don't need to explain everything to the enth degree either on a quote or when the work is being done, i'm sorry if you took my reply as negitive.

...but like i said you can't give a quote over the phone or over the internet you need to see the job...i'm sorry if you took my reply as negitive.

I'm aware of the points you made. I wasn't expecting someone to say well it takes 3.6 hours at £25.78 an hour to assemble and fit a cupboard and there's 10 cupboards. What I was hoping for is the sort of thing you see say with tiling quotes or plastering threads - there's a sort of consensus that ceramic tiling quotes are around £25m2 plus tiles. Now obviously within that there are gonna be easier jobs and more complicated ones...but as a place to start from I think knowing that is helpful.

If it wasn't possible to give some sort of advice as to what is an average or common sort of amount for a particular job then there would be no point in the whole 'Is this quote fair' forum would there.

Thank you for taking time to explain your point of view I understand what you are saying and hope you can see mine. When all is said and done the kitchen fitter/builder is quoting an estimate.

does seem a little high even for your area.
Im orig from somerset and know the fitting of a kitchen is higher than normal, but things like plaster and electrics are ok.
  • Thanks evokit, tbh I think it's quite ott. I think I've now got a decent quote and maybe going with a 'day rate' now, but the neighbours know the chaps involved. :)
