HD widescreen TV’s, who give the best demo ?

I’ve just started looking at these as my current set has just started to add a very fetching green tent to everything…

OK, I have to hold my hands up here and say I’m very picky when it comes to TV picture. I was tech manager of a video duplication plant for 16 years, I spent every day looking for drop out and sync errors, something which you can’t just switch off when you get home.
Some of the set’s I’ve seen are, in my option, appalling, but it seems that only I can see it most of it, ghosting, edging, major blurring on pans and more artifacting than I can believe.
I’ve been to some high street stores and watched them wow the punters with their HD demo disc’s without tell them that’s what their watching, they all seem very reluctant to let you view your own disc (and I can see why !!)
Anyone know the best places to get a real demo, or is it, as I think it maybe, just pot luck on the staff member you get ?

an independant hifi/video retailer will be more willing to demo anything you want - but you are going to find all those faults you mention on an HD set with a SD source.
  • I used to sell TVs until a few months ago. I'm not going to defend high street retailers because i know fom experience there out to rip you off (afterall its what we were paid for)

But what i don't think punters understand is the variations that can occur in TVs. Wherever and whenever you plug a tv in it will look different. it depends on power surges, spikes and fluctuations in the electricity. thats why a tv never looks as good in the shop as at home. (cos theres so much junk running on the stores power)

Not to mention the source of you picture: could be sky or cable or terrestial or freeview or virgin or internet streamed or games console yada yada yada - and each of these things will look different. Let alone the cables your using.

Considering all these factors its almost impossible to get a full demo of what you want to watch as it would be at your house.

I would recomend using independant reviews like which or what hi-fi to choose a selection of tvs you like. if you ask to have the same thing on each one at least you can compare them between eachother.
