before going down the appeal route am going to ask for a reconsideration
was wondering what other peoples experiences of doing this have been and how they went about it i.e. new evidence etc

Your first step (tomorrow) is to phone the DWP, and ask for a 'written statement of reasons' - _and_ the medical report.
These are different documents - the first is a more full explanation of the reasons the decision was made.
The second is the medical evidence that was used.

If you aren't aware, DWP will automatically reconsider if you did appeal... unless they've already done a reconsideration. Asking for reconsideration may only give an advantage of buying you time.. but the process runs so slowly anyway. As per Roger you'll need ideally to get hold of the evidence in play and the SOR... the evidence should include ESA85A which is ATOS' advice to the DWP regarding the WCA (they would have instead sent a full medical report ESA85 if you had had a face to face medical). If I were you I'd seek supporting medical evidence if you can. You obviously think Support Group is the applicable group... presumably you know on what grounds... and therefore can get some really targeted evidence if you have a helpful healthcare professional involved in your situation. CAB may or may not prove useful to you... can be hit and miss.
