car insurance sorn help!

I have a car that is taxed until august - it is currently uninsured and not being used and sitting on my driveway. I want to sell it but it needs a bit of tidying up doing to it first. Hoping to get it sorted within the next 2 weeks.

I read yesterday that it is illegal to have an uninsured car unless it has a SORN...so i thought - easy ill just notify that it is off road and get a SORN. My question is - if i get a SORN now does that invalidate the road tax it currently has? Would I be able to easily reinstate the road tax when i sell it or would i have to but totally new tax?

thanks x

If the insurance has expired you will have to send back the tax or you will be fined you cannot have an ininsured car with a tax disc it MUST be SORN. You cannot reinstate the tax it will have to be retaxed from when you insure it again for either 6 or 12 months.

When buying a vehicle any existing SORN no longer applies.

So you need to SORN it, Even if the previous keeper did it.

Do you plan on insurung it? If not then you really need to SORN it.

How long has it been uninsured for? You should be ok for a few weeks but any longer and you must sorn it and return the tax for a refund.
