A friends wife works in a very expensive eye correction place in London, one of the top in the world apparently. They have all the richest and famous people in the world use them. They also have all the screw-ups done by the cheaper eye correction companies come in to have their sight repaired! She said it was shocking how many there were.
Several things have put me off so far. One is that when you see all the top eye surgens, most of them wear glasses. If laser surgery was so good, why dont they have it? Secondly, they usually guarentee you 20/20 vision. I get much much better vision than that wearing my contact lenses, and looking on the opticions chart, I dont think id be very happy if I suddenly only had 20/20 vision as its quite a drop.
Some people go on about the long term effects are unknown. Well, the same is for contact lenses. They dont really know the long term effects of them. And, others point out that as you get older, your eyesight naturally tends to get worse anyway, so even if you have the op now, you will still have to more than likely wear glasses when your older.
At the end of the day its up to the individual to weigh up the pro`s & cons. Id love to have it done as it would save me 13.50 a month on contact lenses, but i think i`ll be asking my friends wife for her recommendations rather than using the cheapest offer I see.0 -

The link was very informative. Seems he's very happy but suffered more pain then I expected ... but then it was 1999 when he had it done!0 -
Hi
I had laser eye surgery with Optimax in December, and I bought it through Ebay!
Best thing I have ever done.
Its something I had thought about on and off for years and finally decided to take the plunge. And I'm the most squemish person in the world0 -

I suspect the first point is an urban myth ... unless you know all the top eye Doc's yourself ;-) and Optimax haven't at all suggested 20/20 is guarenteed. They seem to present a very fair and reasonably balanced picture in their literature, but I'll know more about that when I quiz the Doc in a few weeks!0 -

Again, talking to my surgeon about this, it appears that some feel very little discomfort after the op, some feel lots of pain, and most come in the middle. LASIK has the advantage of less pain, post operatively, but for me had major drawbacks due to it's technique. My surgeon said that he found youngish males tended to feel most pain. Me, I was climbing the walls after the first op for a few days, despite the prescription painkillers I had. However, I found out I reacted badly against the painkillers themselves! On the second op, I took over-the-counter ibruprofen, and it wasn't half as bad.
The actual op, btw, didn't hurt at all. My pain kicked in about an hour later.
However, even with the discomfort, it was absolutely worth it. And pain relief knowledge is improving all the time so it should be able to be managed much better nowadays.0 -
Any chance this thread could be merged with Laser Eye Surgery (Cheaper long term?) ? as there are a couple of recent posts there which those contemplating this treatment should be aware of before undertaking unnecessary risks to their long term eye health. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

The first point is not an "urban myth". A friend and myself have been to several of those "laser eye treatment" seminars that are occasionally held and we noticed the same thing. Whilst it might not be all the top eye surgerns in the world, it was certainly quite funny seeing that the ones I saw were wearing glasses while advocating their sugery.0 -
great service from Optimax Glasgow.
Operation was start of March, vision now 20/20 ( was -4.5 before)
Throughly recommend itNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
I had Lasik treatment at Optimax Glasgow 2 years ago.
Totally painless, I had painkillers at the ready... not needed.
Good aftercare too. I only wish I hadn't waited as long before getting them done.Regards

Im getting mine done at optimax in mid-april. Just want to ask if some you who had the treatment, did you have both eyes treated on the same day?0
