Is it really safe?
I understand that Boots pulled out of this type of service a year or two ago due to long term doubts.0 -

I had the surgery done by boots last summer. I cannot exaggerate the results. It has been fantastic.
As for Boots pulling from the market. As I understand it, the primary concern was long term viabillity financially. They were loosing money hand over fist on the treatment and the floor space was more financially rewarding to be used for retail. This is as most of the places they offered it in was Large boots stores (like Bluewater, Kent), not specialist treatment centres.
Price should not be considered when looking at something like this. All operations have their risks and issues, but I would strongly recommend it.0 -
My daughter had both eyes done at Optimax in Glasgow about 3 years ago.No problems and now has perfect vision after wearing glasses and contact lenses for years.travelover0

Had it done 4 years ago with Ultralase in Chester. I researched thoroughly for 3 years before. Paid about £1700 for both. I seem to remember things I read about Optimax which made me not even consider them.
The only treatment worth considering these days is Wavefront Lasik - much more accurate.
It's truly life-changing.0 -

Make sure you do your homework.
It's not in your optician's best interest to recommend a treatment that will effectively do him out of a customer of 20 years standing. I agree that price is not the major consideration, I used Ultralase in Leeds, my ops were both successful (in 1993 and 1994) and I still have 20:20 vision.0 -

A simple google on wavefront-guided surgery shows reports that state it offers little benefit over standard methods in normal, usually shaped eyes - such as the report on Optimax's own website. Wavefront is designed for those with corneal aberations (unusually shaped eyes), where it appears to have an advantage.
LASIK has the risk of flap-related complications.
LASEK has very few complications and extremely high success rates.
But do you own research, consider your own circumstances, talk to your optician, quiz the eye surgeons, and make your own decision.
Me, I had LASEK years ago with probably the leading opthamologist in the country - who was/is not associated with any of the commercial laser eye businesses. I didn't look for price .. I looked for a surgeon who had an outstanding track record in this area, and who I felt I could trust after long discussions with them.0 -

I've been considering this for a while, being as blind as a bat (well, almost) - and very nearly went for it a couple of years ago before chickening out.
Can I ask - why did you have two ops? Were there any problems? Do you wear glasses/contacts at all now?0 -
Do they do it while you wait :rotfl:
I'm too chicken to have it done after reading loads of scare stories of what can and does go wrong.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I had left eye done first as it was the worst, then right a few weeks later. They didn't do both at once then as you were effectively blind for a week. I had an eye test last summer and my eyesight was 20:20 so the only glasses I wear are sunglasses:cool:0
