Las Vegas help needed !

Ive got a flight on the right day at a great price, al I need now is a hotel.

Sorry to ask what looks like been asked dozens of times, but Ive looked at other threads (and the fatwallet links etc) and there are some great deals, but they appear to cut the price on selected weekdays, then scam you at weekends (Ive been on hotel sites that jump up $300 per night for fri and sat!)

As I will be staying for a week, This bumps up every quote Ive got (and Ive been doing this for days now, Ive had LOADS) to at least £500 ish, and those are for really grim 1-2 star places wwaaaayyy off the strip ! Ive been to vegas a few times now, so I know the good locations from the bad.

I do realise that vegas prices have increased a lot in the last few years, I went on 02 for around £40 a night, now even the shabbiest places want £50-70 per night, to stay in the hotels again would be very expensive.

Can anyone recommend a way to get a dcent hotel for around £300-400 for the week ? I realise that beggars can;t be chooers, but there must be a way. I looked on the new york new york website, and for a standard room for a week, including online discount etc, still came in at £1000 !!

Can anyone help ? Its my birthday and anniversary, I would really like to treat my wife to a decent hotel, but not at rip off prices. Does such a deal exist ? Or shall I just either cough up or book somewhere cheaper, way off the strip ? (being off the strip is a pain, Ive learned that its false economy, you spend a fortune in cabs instead )

Ive also noticed that whether you go for a high end hotel, or a more budget variation, you still get a large bed, a TV and a bathroom, and thats about it. Thats why Im reluctant to book the luxor etc, as you still only get the same room and facilities regardless.

thanks in advance.

  • What dates do you want? It could be that you coincide with a large convention or sporting event. Even without them £400 for a week is a little ambitious, especially as you rightly want a nice hotel in a good location as a treat for your burthday & anniversary.

If you are prepared to sacrifice "poshness" then you could try Bill's Gamblin Hall and Saloon (naff name, used to be the Barbary Coast) - see http://billslasvegas.com/ - no pool but very central location, comfortable rooms & gets good reviews in Tripadvisor etc. Their online booking isn't working yet so you will have to phone them. Failing that the Imperial Palace is about as cheap usually, rooms are apparently not as good but it does have a pool etc.

Try "Thr Carriage House Hotel" East Harmon Ave. Not on stip and not a casino hotel. Very personal, nice pool etc tennis courts and so on. We have used several times no complaints.
Directly behing the Alladin next to Marriot Grand Chateau.
Booked it direct on Internet Site they have no huge rises at weekends and do week long stays.Steve

Why not enjoy the week days in Las Vegas and go away for the weekend, perhaps to the Grand Canyon?

    Hi, KeithH,

It's not surprising room costs go up at a weekend, all the US flies in at the weekend to gamble and party. If you could fill all YOUR rooms whether you charged $80 or $300 a night what would you do? In mid-week (often Sunday to Thursday) lower demand = lower prices.

BUT what about a side trip to, say, the Grand Canyon at the weekend. It's an awsome sight. Rent a car and visit for a couple of days. For instance, Friday and Saturday nights B&B in deluxe rooms at the Canyon Country Inn in Williams with a good tripadvisor rating is $85 a night on expedia. Williams is the nearest 'city' to the South Rim and you can even travel from there by steam train into the National Park if you want.

    Enjoy your trip.

Edit - Sorry voyager2002 was writing this while you submitted yours.
    Nice to save.

Deals still exist for weekends. You just have to get in quick as soon as the deal comes out. I got $69 for Good Friday at the MGM, but a few days later, this shot up to over $150.

If you don't mind being off the strip, 'Terribles' on paradise and flamingo is ok. It's one of the casinos where the local residents go. I stayed there twice in 2005, one of which was my honeymoon. It's nothing special , but it is cheap, clean and the breakfast buffet is pretty good. it's a 15-20 min walk from bellagio or about a $6 cab ride to the strip. you can book through expedia.

Hi, we just stayed at (former) Barbary Coast in Feb for 1 night (a Friday) as we went to Vegas just for a concert. We did have to pay $150 (because it was a weekend), but it was absolutely fine and as you know, a great location. That was one of the cheaper rooms we found for that day (in a good location), and it wasn't even a warm season, although it was President's Day that week and also there was a convention in town.

I would recommend Barbary Coast for a cheaper option if you have to do a weekend, but having also stayed at the Venetian before (a midweek), it ain't in the same league! Location is excellent though.

The post about taking off for the weekend is actually a really good one. If you don't want to do the Canyon, take a 2-3 hour trip north on I-15 and go to Zion National Park, the most beautiful place I have ever visited. We stayed in a lovely guest cottage 1 mile from the entrance to the park for only £60 a night, including a really good breakfast, freshly cooked, delivered in a picnic basket to your doorstep at an allotted time in the morning. You eat it on the patio overlooking the park. Gorgeous. (see tripadvisor.com Red Rock Inn).

Alternatively, sign up for email offers for every hotel you fancy trying, and keep checking the sites. Most have cancellation policies that allow you to cancel up to 72 hours before without charge, so you can bag a room now at an alright rate, but in the last month you may be sent a cracking deal that you can change to. We did that with the Venetian and paid only £90 for a luxury strip view. Make sure you read the cancellation policies before you book though.

    Hope that helps
