Car insurance - Am I technically retired?

Hi.
Can someone shed some light on this please...
I'm 39.
I don't work.
I'm not looking for work.
I don't claim any benefits at all.
I don't claim a pension.
My income currently is from interest on savings.
On my car insurance can I legally put down 'retired' rather than unemployed?
Within the next six months I am looking to rent my home out and so my income will be from rent. Will I need to tell the insurers of a change in occupation, to landlord from retired?
Many thanks for any input

"Independant Means" would be the correct classification for insurance purposes.

I'm in a similar position. I'm 42 and just been made redundant from the Armed Forces. I am receiving my ex-servicemen's pension and not entitled to Jobseekers, although I'm signing on to keep my National Insurance payments up to date. My wife works and my pension just covers my 'share' of the bills. I have savings and my redundancy payout to keep me going for now so I'm taking a 'gap year' before rejoining the rat race. I'm also completing my degree as a part-time student.
Am I retired, a house person, a student or unemployed? There's no option for 'independant means', and the price of insurance varies between £646 and £383 depending which I choose!0 -
It seems some insurers/comparison sites have 'independant means' others don't. Other than that I can't advise.0

Do you have children0 -
Me too! 11 years to go until state retirement age, living on a private widow's pension, not claiming/entitled to any state benefits.
The way I figure it...
I'm not retired (although I get a pension) 'cos I'm too young.
I'm not unemployed 'cos I don't sign on and am not looking for work.
I'm not a housewife 'cos that implies I have a spouse/partner paying the bills.
I find that I answer the question differently depending on who's asking and what the options are but am grateful to my late husband for leaving me in a position where I'm replying on this thread instead of the benefits board.Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that she is pink; we logically know that she is invisible because we can't see her."0
