Connecting a whole village to gas
Basically we want to see if we can all be connected to gas - a main runs along the main road but we are a little way from it. I've looked at the National Grid website but not sure that's quite the right place to apply for someone to come out and see if it's possible.
Can anyone advise who I should speak to please - and if you've done it successfully, any hints and tips?
Thanks
Liz

I would love that to happen in our village also but keep being told by energy companies that oil is cheaper?0

We're hoping that if most of the village clubs together, we can afford to have the gas laid on -that's where the expense would lie. Thereafter it's definitely cheaper than oil.
I think the gas companies should be paying us - not the other way round - so that they get our business.
I just need to know how to go about setting the wheels in motion to look at feasibility but don't know where to start.0 -
You need to speak to the gas transporter for your area to see 1,. If there are plans for them to do in the future, 2 if not costs involved should your village want to do it (be warned if latter is the case it is unlikely to be cheap to do and will be a lengthy process to put a whole village on)I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Thank you. How would I find out who the 'gas transporter' is?0

Maybe you should look into Independent Gas Transporters as described here. Will mean higher bills forever more than if the pipework were installed by Transco, but probably means lower initial installation costs. Builders of new housing estates often use them to hook up the houses.0

Transco disappeared over 8 years ago so they will not be installing pipes, yes you can go IGT route but they still need to connect their pipes to the Gas Network for the area so also check direct with them as wellI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
You would be best first looking at the survey of the area, is their rock etc as if so this will cause issuesDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thank you all. Who would I contact to do such a survey other than these independent transporters? British Gas? Or are they just another supplier these days?
I just have no idea who does gas - I think Western Networks deal with electricity in this area but who does gas?
Thanks0 -
Its your own homework, I will warn though its going to be in very high thousands if they are able todo itDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
