Bizarre letter from Natwest

Hey,
was just wondering if anyone else had received this sort of correspondence from Natwest...
A letter arrived for me yesterday in regards to an account I had with them years ago which was subsequently closed. I remember receiving a couple of charges on that account despite it being a child's account for silly direct debits.
Now in this letter it states that I was wrongly charged a total of £152 in charges and with that £16 worth of interest and they wish to refund these amounts to an account and includes a payment slip at the bottom. The letter I've got to admit seems fine, and also came with a 0800 number, so I called the number and got through to an american guy who reassured me that it was all fine and that I could do it via the branch if I was concerned. I rang Natwest's actual telephone banking and reiterated the 0800 number to them, he advised yes that they did indeed want to give me some money. With that, I called the number back and gave my new sort code and account number, she advised that the payment would be in my bank account within two weeks.
Surely this can't be the world's biggest scam or have Natwest just decided to throw money back at people?!

I was just about to start a similar thread but from RBS about charges of £86 and interest of £16. But when spoken to on the telephone they say the account details and sort code that is on the letter aren't recognised?!! Very confused and quite reluctant to send off the attached form with my new details.
Don't me to gatecrash your thread but will follow to see what exactly it is all about. I was maybe 16 or 17 at the time so don't understand why I even had charges?!0 -
I haven't heard about this. What's the name of the person at the bottom of the letter? What's the number on there? I can have a look when I go into work tomorrow see if it seems alright or not.I work for Natwest.0

I received a refund of £91 in my account last week from RBS plus interest of £12.89 on an old savings account that used to have direct debits, these charges go back to 2008/2009. Haven't had anything back from my current account.
The account is still open so I received the funds before the letter.
My son who also banks with RBS received £300 about 2 months ago, same letter as detailed in earlier posts from Natwest.
Not quite sure what is driving this but is legitimate and not a scam.
Good news anyway!!:j0 -
The refunds are as a result of charging error that happened nearly 2 years ago if not longer.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

So 2 weeks have now passed.
Did you get the money as promised or was this just a scam?0
