It's very easy and quick to hop on a train from Barcelona down the coast to a resort area. I don't think anyone was suggesting you spend the ten days IN Barcelona (although it might be nice to spend a day or two there at the beginning or the end for contrast -it's a lovely city)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I suggest Hungary, fly into Budapest and get a train out to Lake Balaton. Lots of lovely towns around there, you could hire a car to get around and about. Spa towns, cheap food, vineyards and local wine and although no beach a lovely lake.
Accommodation is really cheap, lovely houses for rent for the week at reasonable prices.
7 days at the lake, 3 in budapest - should get in for under 300.0
