I think you need to speak to the Insurance company and if you don't understand, speak to Citizens Advice. I can sense that you don't have much understanding of these issues and I am not sure whether you will be any the wiser after many posts on MSE.

My advice is to make the claim with your Insurers and follow the claims processes. Your Insurers will have to deal with third party claims anyway, so if you have comprehensive cover, you might as well claim for the damage to your car as well.

In regard to the criminal issues, let the Police deal with this and if you have any information, provide this to your Insurers, as it may be relevant to the claim being made.
