Hi, I brought a sofa on my credit car about 2 years ago but the zips are breaking and the stitching is coming apart in most places. Am I able to claim the cost of the sofa back from the credit card company?????

Not unless you can prove it's down to a manufacturing defect and isn't just wear and tear.0

Probably not.
Have you complained to the retailer? If so, what did they say?0 -
Depends on whether you think you could convince a court (ultimately) that the sofa wasn't "of merchantable quality" at the time it was sold.
Things do wear out and can't expected to last forever, so this won't be easy to prove.
I once complained about a carpet wearing out prematurely. The shop said they expected them to last 7 years and, after inspection, agreed to refund the remaining expected life of the carpet (about 2/7ths of the original cost). So ask the retailer, and you might be pleasantly surprised. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Even in the event that you can prove it is due to a manufacturing defect, you are more likely to be able to claim a repair cost rather than full cost0

As above, there can be many factors - could yes, could be no.
Depends on how much it cost (in my opinion) if you paid say £500, two years could be deemed as being reasonable. if you paid £5000 then you could reasonably expect it to last longer than two years. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
