Passport renewal

Hi, an opportunity has come up for me to go to Austria for a couple of days on the 21st July. Only I've just realised I haven't got a passport. I haven't booked any flights or anything yet becuase I'm not sure how easy it will be to get a passport.
So, I have a child passport (all mine, not on parents) which expired about 2 1/2 years ago. On the directgov website it says you cannot use the fast track service on a first adult passport so you would think thats not an option. Only it goes on to say that if you have your own child passport and you want to get an adult passport you should treat it as a normal renewal, so you can use the fast track service.
Does anybody have any idea whether I will be able to get a fast track passport with an expired child passport? I will give them a call, but I just wondered if any of you had any idea in the meantime?

Its a renewal passport, therefore you are eligible for the fast-track service. It will cost you £112.50 Phone the advice line and book an appointment at your nearest office. The passport will be delivered, at the latest, a week after your appointment.0

My son renewed his child passport to get his first adult one, used the normal route with Post Office check and send and got his passport back last week after just 2 weeks - the PO said 2-3 weeks is the norm0

Its taking about 4 weeks even for renewals just now - PO check and send is not a guaranteed service. And if the Post Office get it wrong (as they do) that is yet another delay.0 -
check and send does not speed the process up, I do know that Peterborough are working on about a 3 week turnaround at the moment,.
OP it is a renewal, If you do it yourself and fill forms in correctly you should (but you may be sweating)get it back in time going the normal route0
