Hot water problem

Hi Keep having a problem where by the cable connecting to my heating element seems to burn out. I re strip the wires and reattatch them and then a month or two down the line they have disintergrated again. Does anyone know what my problem could be? i've had to fix it 4 times now and i'm concerened I have a bigger problem.

Thank you in advance!

I assume you are talking about an immersion heater here, so I would be concerned that it isn't working properly and needs replacing or at least checking out by an electrician.

Yes thats the one, it works okay when connected. is it more likely to be the element?

it is possible that the cable is undersized.
not sure of correct size for domestic immersion, but it is a largish one

the cable you should be using is 1.5mm2 heat resistant 3 core flex or was once called butyl.

If I were you and i wasn't too sure about the wiring I'd get it checked over by an electrician cos if the wires are burning out like that you have a fire risk there.
