GF is self employed.
Thinking of buying her a web domain name as a present so she can market her design business through her own website.
Questions; Best company to go with to buy the domain name ?
Question; Is it possible for me to buy it then transfer it to her ownership ?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

One serious consideration is buying a package, if you can afford it, so web domain, as well as hosting space. The problem you'll have is transferring/sending it to somewhere else if you then decide you want to combine the hosting and domain together. Some are free to do so, some are cheap to buy, then hit you on a transfer fee. Probably for a small company/start up web presence you wouldn't need a lot of bandwidth/web space to begin with.
Also the name itself; there are some do's and don'ts with names, as well as the more common ones already gone. Things like domain name suffixes as well, .org, .co.uk, .com, .biz etc etc.
I'd probably look up costing, and make a voucher up and let your GF choose all that before buying it. A domain name can be very personal, and what you buy as a guess (if she doesn't know about it) might not be the right one for her "fit" so by making up a nice wee voucher of x amount (having researched the cost so you know how much is enough) that she can use would be better (IMO) More personal, but gives more choice for her. You can't just return a domain name, minimum is 1 year ownership.
That way you can get it all set up in her name etc, and not have to transfer it at a later date.0 -

I have a domain and hosting, £2.99 for the name for 3 years and £3.99 a month for the hosting, I think that was through http://www.34sp.com/**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. If she is marketing her business then ensure you get a package that meets her needs. Avoid any that state unlimited bandwidth/diskspace - it is not viable on a shared hosting platform and there will undoubtedly be hidden charges.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0

1&1 offer free catch-all email addresses which is worth considering.
This means anything @herdomain.co.uk will get forwarded rather than having to explicitly enter each address you want forwarded.0 -

2. Get the domain name first.
Absolutely no point buying webspace until you have a website to put on it.
3. Most, like 123-reg have a control panel, where you can access the details and change them as you require.
Owner, Admin, Billing and Technical details can be changed.
For yourself, This will be just one set of details.
Ownership can be changed in about 2 minutes by yourself for free.
You will however need to change ownership and contact details of the 123 account itself so GF has full control.
Again, this can be done within the system by yourself (change email etc).
PS I'd think about perfume as well -a tenner as a gift might not be best appreciated0 -
1. Almost all will offer this as standard. And anyway, avoid 1and1 like the plague.0

It is not unlimited, it is only advertised as such for a sales gimmick.1&1 offer free catch-all email addresses which is worth considering.

That is just standard - you can even set that up with just a domain name and no hosting.
A catchall is a pain anyway as it attracts spam. Not sure why you think a catchall is a special feature, it is a standard one, and one that you should not be paying extra for.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0
