Help to keep no clams bonus (+ protection)

Hope some people can help me with my dilemma
I was involved in a serious motorway accident in January this year (was in hospital for 3 months) and of course my car was written off.
The accident was not my fault and in the very long process of claiming through a solicitor (not going through insurance apart from getting my money back for my car).
My injuries are so extensive that I will probably not be able to drive for quite a while (still got broken limbs 5 months on).
2 questions really
1. Car is down as scrapped - should I have stopped paying insurance?
2. How can I keep up my 12 years+ no claims bonus (and protection) when I've not got a car and like said most probably not going to drive for a bit
any advice most welcome

Your NCD won't "die" before 2 years have passed from the date your current policy ends (or is ended if you decide to cancel it).
Assuming you do not intend driving again during the current policy year, then there seems little point you paying the premiums, though check the cost of cancelling is less than the cost of keeping it going, and that your claim for your car doesn't mean the full year is payable anyway. (Might as well pay on the drip than in a lump sum now)0 -
thank you for that. my policy is actually up for renewal this month and my insurers, even though they know my car is a cube still sent me renewal info. I just dont want to lose my no claims bonus xGot married on 1st August

It will be cheaper to let it expire rather than cancel it. Though make sure it doesn't autorenew!
Your OP isn't clear, as you mention getting paid for your car by "insurance".
If this is off your own insurer, then your NCD may be affected because of this, albeit temporarily (they will reinstate it when they get fully recompensed by the third party).0 -
Yes insurers paid for my 'cube' of a car
(I was still in hospital when my parents informed my insurance of my accident, I didn't do it myself) not doing other claims via my insurance though.
Like said - just want to keep (or try and keep) my no claims even though I haven't got a car xGot married on 1st August

As posted previously, your no claims discount is safe for 2 years from the expiry of your current policy.
As the claim is still open, the "worst" that can happen is you lose a protection "life" temporarily pending the outcome of the claim, which will be reinstated if the claim is 100% the third party's liability.0
