Recording sound from the internet?

Every so often I want to make a sound recording of a BBC radio programme that is not available as a podcast. Using the 'Listen again' feature on their website, the sound plays perfectly. However, when I try to record it to my hard disk using Audacity, I only get a very low level mono recording. This happens when I use the latest version of Audacity, together with the Firefox web browser, the whole lot running under Windows 7.
Oddly enough, the same method used to work well on my old XP computer with an earlier version of Audacity: as it happens the browser I used to use was Google Chrome, but is that likely to make any difference?

A simpler and more reliable solution would be to use Radio Downloader0

Thank you, both of you.
I had never heard of this application before, but it seems amazingly useful.0 -
It is, but having Audacity working for other streams is a handy back-up.
I've found version 1.2.6 to be better under W7 than the newer version. Make sure the input is set to Rec Playback and that 2 stereo channels is selected.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
I was using Free Hi-Q Recorder, then got the license as it was useful. Free version allows up to 96 KB/s MP3 recording and has plenty of features. By far the best is: Auto recording volume that works well so no fiddly setup required. It is also capable of auto splitting the files at the end of say, every hour's recording.

What's best for voice recording via a microphone directly onto a PC? (for email attachment). I'm using Win XP.0
