From reading posts here, i understand its fine to eat food that has been frozen a long time after its been in the freezer, beans, lentils and rice all stay ok past their use by date and so do canned foods.
What about oils? I have grapeseed oil that is out of date but doesn't smell rancid to me, did a google search which said grapeseed oil does not last very long and should be kept in the fridge. I've been keeping it in the kitchen.
I also have coconut oil which i have had for years but not finished it yet.0 -
Being a child of the seventies and before there were dates on everything (Brought in by M&S in 1972 for fresh foods only). If it smells ok I use it, if it is fresh and close to expiry I will freeze it and use as and when. I have even opened cans 6 months past expiry and they have been perfectly ok as have dried foods, flour will last up to 30 years and dried milk for about 20 years (Look on any US preppers sites)Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Meat and fish I will usually eat it if its 1 or 2 days past the use-by date and smells/ looks OK but after that I don't risk it.
"I bought some mince from Aldi once and it actually went off BEFORE the use by date, I opened it up and it was all brown and stunk like it was rotting so I chucked it. Just goes to show how you can't trust these dates."
With eggs I do what another posted has said and put them in a bowl of water, if they float I chuck them. I've eaten eggs up to 2 weeks past their BBE date with this method and been fine.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I don't eat food past its date to save money, I eat it because it's a waste of (generally) perfectly good food. If it smells ok and looks ok, it'll probably taste ok is my motto.0

I look at it and smell it - if it smells okay and looks okay - I'd eat it. If its a low risk food - ie meat or whatever that was going to be cooked, no problem - cooking would kill most stuff. If its cooked meat and looked or smelt dodgy - no. Equally with fish, sausages and dairy stuff (not that I eat dairy anyway) - not if it was past the date. But I buy loads of whoopsies and freeze them for use later. No problem - common sense really.0

What does it smell like? Has the base gone mouldy? Are any of the veggies on the topping growing fur? If it smells fine and there is no mould or fur, then it should be OK to cook and eat tonight.
Dates are guidelines, not set in stone.

I'd cook the pizza - if it looked and smelled OK.
I'd eat it if it tasted OK.
I take no notice of Best Before dates and not a lot of notice of Use By dates.
Although this thread may be classed as past its sell by date as it was started 9 years ago.0 -

The manufactures are telling you it isn't save to eat, the rest is up to you. I wouldn't eat it myself, many people would, and many people wouldn't.0
