De Dietrich induction hob failed

About 18 months ago I invested in a rather posh De Dietrich induction hob. Being a german manufacturer I was re-assured that it would be reliable, and should anything go wrong I would get good service from them. Wrong.
Within 8 months the whole right hand side had failed, wouldn't turn on. This was repaired under warranty. Now another 10 months on the rear right zone has failed again, this time it turns on but does not heat.
Despite claims of a 2 or 5 year warranty on all products on their website, I somehow only have a 1 year warranty and they are refusing to do anything about the fault. They will send an engineer out to look at it, but that will cost me £177.
For a £400+ hob I'd have expected it to last a bit longer (like, forever). Not happy. Do not buy anything from De Dietich. I certainly won't ever again.

You probably don't want to hear now this but De Dietrich is not German:

Plus, to expect any induction hob to last "forever" would be a touch optimistic.0 -
De Dietrich is not German and worse their customer service is pretty poor. Good reason that very few kitchen retailers will deal with them.
Stick with BSH or Miele and you'll really find you get a very good product with very good service backup. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Can't speak for Miele, but my experience of BSH service is that it's pretty poor, at least it is in my area! Neff would be better named 'Naff' in my estimation!0

I was hoping to buy a Miele induction hob and saw one on ebay 2nd hand. The seller said that one ring had failed and that Miele wanted £650 to repair it so they were getting rid! If this is true then I do not think I would bother with Miele.
I have heard that the Ikea induction hobs are pretty good and come with a 5 year guarantee - in which case it would be cheaper to buy a new Ikea hob every five years if need be than buy a Miele and have to cover possible repair costs.0
