insurance for currently undiagnosed neurological problem

We have a holiday booked to USA and Canada for 3 weeks in mid August. We have annual travel insurance through direct travel predating medical problem. Flights were also booked pre medical problems.
approx 8 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a possible stroke (aged 44 and scan negative). They have since said not sure that it was that and am due to see a neurologist in 2 weeks for more tests. Havent yet informed travel insurance as dont have a diagnosis. Problem is holiday is now fast approaching and whilst I know that I could claim back flights etc through insurance if they wont insure me to travel, we do actually still want to go as problems not severe. How long do I wait before d/w insurance company, and if they refuse to insure me, do you have any other suggestions, dont mind paying extra premium, but wouldn't go to North America without medical insurance.
Thank you :)

I would read the smallprint of your policy and then speak to your insurance company advising them of all facts known to date without delay and see what their advice is.

Phoned direct travel- am covered even if still un diagnosed and having hospital investigation, as booked on policy before medical problems, as long as GP says fit to travel. Found direct travels customer service department extremely helpful :) big relief!

I was going to say just that. We have this with my husband we cannot ever leave our current providers as he'd never get covered, but is okay with our current provider as he was insured with them before he was ill.

I had a t.i.a earlier on this year (aged 39) we had booked everything but hadnt taken out the insurance

I phoned a couple of places and they would cover me at a high premium but not for anything t.i.a related , someone mentioned trying bupa so i phoned them and they are covering me t.i.a included for less than £10 more than the ones that wouldnt cover me

I was totally honest with all information and i think it helped ... I know have a years worldwide cover including u.s.a for £190 ...

If you dont get covered by your current company maybe try bupa ... Yes it might be expensive to get covered especially if you are covered already but like you i wouldnt risk going to the u.s.a without cover

Good luck and good luck with the further tests
