Hi Guys

I know you all have a wealth of personal experience so please tell me where I go from here. As in the title I have just returned from my Atos medical for Industrial Injury Disablement benefit. I have a chronic back problem but could not understand why the examiner measured around my legs just above the knee. I am sure there is a logical reason I just dont know what it is.

How long will it be before I can request a copy of the report. She did not use a computer screen in front of me, just wrote a statement of my words which I had to sign before I left and then I had a physical exam. It took less than half an hour which I assume is a bad sign.

Thanks in advance

Can I ask how, from what you have written, that makes it an interrogation?

It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, I was treated with respect and I treated the examiner in the same way. I was honest in my answers I just want to know how long it will be before I can request a written report. Alot has been said about ESA medicals but not IIDB

I had my legs measured too, last time I went for a medical. I think it's definitely so they can verify a claim of being unable to walk normally, for example.

One of my legs (the "bad" leg) is much thinner than the other as it's not used as much when you're limping. I also had the sole of my shoes checked to see whether there's more evidence of wear on the good side.

Thank You, I've never had it done before, even at the hospital. Now I just have to wait for the decision.

Regards IIDB and % awards and what they mean..example being..loss of hand or a foot =100% disability award..it has nothing to do with being bed bound and is solely based on the injury sustained..please see link for all "% Prescribed degrees of disablement"

  • Thanks to you both for your information, it is extremely useful. I have 2 slipped discs from a fall at work so I don't know whether I qualify or not.

Painful condition I have this, had lots of surgeries and two more to go, got to have decompression, replacement and fusion of neck, and lower back fused...

It can be debilitating dependant where the discs are prolapsed...

There could be an argument for this injury occuring anyway, they may and try to argue that falling was a 'minor occurance' and that the injury sustained could have happened anyway...
They could argue that your discs were already weak

I may be wrong and I hope I am...
I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...
